What are Solar Panels?

Solar panels are specially designed materials which are used to absorb the energy from the sun, thanks to technological advancements in the field of photovoltaics. Basically, solar panels help convert sunlight into electricity.

A Brief History Never Hurt Anybody

The genesis of what we call solar panels today begun when Alexandre-Edmond Becquerel discovered certain materials which were proven to create an electrical charge from exposure to light. This observation occurred in the year 1839.

Only an observation at the time, this experiment was carried out by Willoughby Smith, who in 1873 discovered that the charge could be created by directing enough light on selenium. (Selenium is the chemical element of atomic number 34, a grey crystalline non-metal with semi conducting properties).
